StarCraft 2 on its way

94blizzard20logo2nv.pngStarCraft 2 has been announced and will be shown at Blizzard’s WWI (World Wide Invitational) on May 19th. The game is being developed in 3D and will include a new race based on Kerrigan, meaning the game will have to offer a total of 4 races. The three older races (Terran, Zerg and Protoss) will each receive about two new units and the older units will receive new abilities. Considering the huge success of the first StarCraft, the will be a lot of pressure on StarCraft 2 to surpass, or at least match the greatness of its predecessor. Blizzard wants to shut down the original StarCraft servers in order to assure StarCraft 2’s success. It’s rumored that a BETA version of StarCraft 2 will be available by the end of 2007. Only time will tell.

Call of Duty 4 in development

call-of-duty-logo.PNGA reliable source has just confirmed the existence of Call of Duty 4. It will be developed by Infinity Ward, the developer behind CoD and CoD2. CoD4 is said to step away from the ruins of WWII and instead focusing on the battlefields of present day. The game’s realism is supposedly amazing, the source saying that you can shoot a soldier’s helmet on the side and make it spin on his head or you could shoot it right off. You might even be able to shoot soldiers’ ears off. CoD is said to be released for consoles and PCs also, but the release date is unknown.

endwar_screen001.PNGUbiSoft has recently announced a new Tom Clancy series called Tom Clancy’s EndWar. The game will be a futuristic war strategy game set on the battlefields of World War III, possibly an MMO. Considering UbiSoft’s track record, I think the game will be a huge success. The release date for the game has yet to be announced, but it’s said to be released in late 2007.

Grand Theft Auto IV news

250px-gtaiv_logo.jpgAndrew Reiner has just released some new information about Rockstar’s game-to-come, GTA IV. Here’s a list of all we’ve found out:

*Helicopters are confirmed

*GameInformer’s demo was only 15 minutes, they didn’t manage to see if seasons were implemented

*AI is likely to have been vastly improved

*It seems as though we’re able to climb objects such as telephone poles

*Liberty City seems very realistic

*Girlfriends make a return, slightly surprising judging by the amount of people who really didn’t like this feature in San Andreas

*It’s very possible that characters from previous GTA games will make an appearance

*There really are no loading screens

This all sound very interesting, no wonder fans can’t wait for the game to be released. Let’s hope Rockstar’s considering a PC version too.

DirectX 10 games on previous versions of Windows

logo.pngIs this possible? According to Microsoft, you’d have to run Vista in order to play DX10 games. Cody Brocious, who is, in his own words, a “19 year old software reverse-engineer” in San Diego, California says that we might be able to enjoy DirectX 10 games without having to upgrade to Microsoft’s latest OS, Windows Vista. If you have any questions, please visit Cody’s blog / website / forum and ask him about it directly.

Resident Evil 4 PC patch

5877-468x-beforeafterre4pc.jpg UbiSoft have just released a patch for the PC version of Resident Evil 4 that greatly improves the game’s graphics and fixes several bugs. It’s a well known fact that the porting of RE4 to PCs was poorly done, thus the graphics were severely downgraded. The patch has about 70MB and contains new textures and adds lighting and new effects, making the game significantly easier on the eyes. The patch can be downloaded here.
